The 3rd time in the Zone

2 August, 2010

If you’re an avid fps game fan, you’re bound to know the series of games called S.T.A.L.K.E.R. developed by the Ukrainian team GSC Game World, beginning in 2007 with the truly epic Shadow of Chernobyl, continues in 2008 with Clear Sky and hit our screens for the 3rd time last February (2010) with Call of Pripyat.

The series is based loosely on the film Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky and the same titled novel of the Strugatsky brothers. The main story behind the STALKER series, in very short, is that after the disaster in Chernobyl in 1986 the Soviet Union continues experiments in secret labs located in the now deserted area around Chernobyl. A second explosion in 2006, creates the Zone, an area of  30km in radius, unique for it is host to extreme anomalous activity in nature and mutant Read the rest of this entry »

Virtual Tuning Mania

15 August, 2009

One of the many trends that came along with the Fast & Furious movies and the Need For Speed Underground series of games is the “art” of tuning and modifying your car to look as stupid and ridiculous as possible!!!

By that I mean the addition of ‘shark fin’ like spoilers, ‘dragon’ like body-kits full of air vents and grille and the necessary addition of hundreds of stickers of performance (therefore expensive) part brands that your car will never have. A must ‘mod’ is the neon lights under the car! Look dad, my little Seat has been captured by UFOs! Look how it glows!

So it’s bloody typical: you can have a Honda Civic that values up to 3,000€ at the most and still have another 6,000€ worth of tuner stupidity mounted on it!! The car looks like it can rocket up to 60mph in less than 3 seconds whereas reality brings that figure up to something more than 8 seconds. And you tweak it, tune it, buy this spark plug and that exhaust pipe, tweak it some more and tune it some more till one day the poor bastard falls apart.

No more tears for those scratched disks!

4 January, 2008

Having a scratched cd or dvd that refuses to play? Stop cursing and start reading.

This is something I found elsewhere and I’m posting it as it is. I haven’t tried any of the tricks described, so use at your own risk. And remember: As soon as the disk gets read: COPY & PASTE before it’s too late again!

Most of you might have experienced problems with scratched CDs and DVDs. It’s due to scratches your DVD and CD player is unable to read the data in the disc giving rise to reading errors. In the case of audio CDs, the CD skips when we play it. Read the rest of this entry »

Coin-ops of the 80’s – Top 20

12 December, 2007

Here’s a list of my favorite coin-op arcades of the late 70’s to the early 90’s when I actually stopped visiting arcades! The year number in the brackets is the official release date of the machine, not the year I’ve seen/played it). The list is loosely based on memory and I’ll put some pictures when I find them and maybe add a few more games if I remember them:

1. Can’t remember the title -will find it- it was a car game (70’s)
2. Space Invaders (1979)(of course!)
